In this beginners class you’ll be introduced to the traditional patchwork technique of English paper piecing or EPP. English Paper Piecing is shaping fabric around a paper template and hand stitching the shapes together to create many projects. Its extremely therapeutic, addictive and an easy method of patchwork.
During this workshop you'll learn the techniques & skills to create hexagons, how to cut and use paper pieces to make accurate shapes. You’ll learn methods of how to attach vintage and new fabrics from our stash. Then hand sew seven finished hexies together with a whip stitch to form a flower. This techniques works for a multitude of shapes and range of projects on any scale. ‘Fussy cutting’ can also be used to create a complex and striking kaleidoscope effect.
The hexagon flowers created at class can be used to adorn bags, cushions or stitched together to create a cherished heirloom quilt.
This sociable method of patchwork is perfect for busy lives as its very easily picked up and put down. Its no wonder its enjoying a resurgence as its such a versatile technique, being completely portable and a marvellous way to use up scrap fabrics.
Material included. Fabric, thread and paper templates. Basic tools of the trade are also provided so all you have to do is show up!
