Leah Halliday

The Design Process

If you decide to go ahead with the commission, an appointment will be made to take a comprehensive range of your measurements. We will recommend the best type of underwear, as this will depend on the design of your dress and also your body shape. Leah asks that a 30% deposit be paid to secure your commission by this date.

There are normally 3 to 4 fittings involved with Leah personally. To ensure that your dress fits perfectly you will need to bring your undergarments to every fitting.

First fitting: This appointment is to fit the calico toile of your wedding dress and made from your own personal pattern. The toile is a working pattern of your design and any adjustments are made while you are wearing the toile. You are able to see the initial design on your body and agree to any small changes and alterations. The toile allows Leah to perfect the cut and refine the shape of your dress.

Second fitting: All amendments will have been made to your first toile. It will be necessary to have an idea of what shoes you will be wearing so that we know how much fabric to order for the correct hem length. Only when you are completely happy with the final toile will we proceed to order and cut the silk fabric of your choice. At this stage you will be asked to pay the second payment for your dress.

Third fitting: This will be a silk fitting and your dress will begin to take shape and will now be made in your final fabrics. The dress will not be finished at this stage but you will be able to see how the fabric feels and how the dress fits your body. This will also be the time to start considering your accessories for the day. Leah can create a range of handcrafted accessories to compliment the design of your dress.

Fourth fitting: We will ensure that the dress hem is at the correct length and make sure that everything is perfect. We suggest that you bring your accessories and jewellery to try on with your dress, in order to see the whole look. Depending on the design of the dress additional silk fittings may be required.

Dress Collection: We recommend that you try your dress on one final time. Your dress will be supplied with a luxury garment cover and padded hanger. Final payment will be required.
